Lansing, Kansas – July 2, 2024: In June, Catalyzer kicked off a new program for senior leaders among Colorado’s law enforcement community: the Command Staff Institute. Since 2020, rising leaders within the County Sheriffs Of Colorado (CSOC) have attended Catalyzer’s weeklong seminars to prepare them for their future roles and improve their performance immediately as deputies and sergeants.

However, June’s Institute was the first time CSOC sponsored a similar seminar for the upper tiers within sheriff’s offices: professionals promotable to Lieutenant and senior. Although virtually participant in this first program had at least a dozen years in law enforcement, this kind of opportunity for in-stride personal and professional growth was unprecedented in their careers.

This summer’s immersive experience was intense: two weeks of collaborative classes covering responsibilities that senior leaders face, often for the first time. Those topics included dealing with the media, risk management, leading change, and introductory strategic planning and project management.

The culminating event was a 3-day role-play scenario that operationalized themes including recruiting; team building; and leading in environments of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.

Over 10 days of content delivery, Catalyzer collected 148 individual critiques from these seasoned professionals, and the positive feedback across all responses was overwhelming. Narrative comments were similarly complimentary. Examples include:

  • “This was one of the best and most enriching leadership courses I’ve participated in.”
  • “I would give this course and instructors the highest endorsement possible. The course material is relevant, practical, and immediately useful. The engagement was consistent and intentional, setting the bar very high for future courses I anticipate attending.”

Participants repeatedly cited that defining feature of Catalyzer’s programs: the engaging instructors.

  • “In an ever-changing world, this course of instruction and its quality instructors have been and will be invaluable to the future of my Agency.”
  • “Command-level classes are difficult to find, and I have attended a few, but the interaction and content made this one the best.”
  • “The most unique/valuable part of the training was the style of instruction. That’s what sets it apart.”

In the future, CSOC intends to offer Catalyzer’s Command Staff Institute at least every other year, but perhaps annually as its reputation spreads and demand increases.
